Exploratory Art

This is a 9 weeks course offered to 6th graders. Students learn drawing as a basic skill starting with the five kinds of lines and how to interpret what they see using these lines. Values and colors are added along the way to enhance students’ visual statements. Students leave the class at the end of each quarter with enhanced visual and verbal vocabularies. (no previous Art experience necessary)

Art 1 and 2

This is a semester long course offered to 7th and 8th graders with Art 1 in the fall semester and Art 2 in the spring semester. Students can take either or both semesters during either or both years. The courses are guided by the Elements and Principles of Design, as well as both National and State Art standards. Students begin by learning/reviewing basic drawing skills. Throughout the semester, students’ visual and verbal means of expression are enhanced through exploration of a variety of media and genres. Students acquire skills to expand their ways of looking at and interpreting their worlds. (no previous Art experience necessary)
